This may be a pioneering pole, a tree or indeed another rope.<\/p>\n<p>Sailors often use hitches and many can be tied very quickly (to temporarily tie a line to an anchor) and indeed untied quickly too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/buntline-hitch\/\">Buntline Hitch<\/a> - Will not come undone!<\/p>\n<p>Clinch Knot - Useful for fishing line<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/clove-hitch\/\">Clove Hitch<\/a> - Classic, famous and simple<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/constrictor-hitch\/\">Constrictor Hitch<\/a> - Binds very tightly<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/cow-hitch\/\">Cow Hitch<\/a> - Looks good but is probably the least secure<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/figure-of-8-hitch\/\">Figure of 8 Hitch<\/a> - Quickly tied although not very secure<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/fishermans-bend\/\">Fishermans Bend<\/a> - Not a bend but a very secure hitch<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/killick-hitch\/\">Killick Hitch<\/a> - Slight modification of the Timber Hitch for pulling a log<\/p>\n<p>Klemheist Knot - A variation of the Prusik Knot<\/p>\n<p>Marlinspike Hitch - This allows you to get extra purchase on a rope when pulling tight<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/cow-hitch\/\">Pedigree Cow Hitch<\/a> - An extra tuck in a Cow Hitch changes it into a very secure hitch<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/pile-hitch\/\">Pile Hitch<\/a> - Very simple and very practical<\/p>\n<p>Prusik Knot - Useful in climbing<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/rolling-hitch\/\">Rolling Hitch<\/a> - Made with thin line over a thick rope<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/round-turn-and-2-half-hitches\/\">Round Turn and 2 Half Hitches<\/a> - Widely used and very useful<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/sheepshank\/\">Sheepshank<\/a> - Designed to shorten a rope before use<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scoutingresources.org.uk\/wordpress\/outdoor-adventure\/knots\/hitches\/timber-hitch\/\">Timber Hitch<\/a> - Very simple and an excellent hitch<\/p>\n<p>Waggoner's Hitch - Simple hitch that acts as a lever<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction A hitch is used to tie a rope to or around an object.
